Bringing out the Best in Every HorseAt Ryan Walsh Racing Stable our goal is simple… To bring out the best in every horse in our barn. We are a hands-on family operation that has been in the Thoroughbred racing business for over 30 years. The Walsh family has a long family tradition in Thoroughbreds and horses, which Ryan Walsh continues to this day as the third generation. His grandparents owned and operated a flourishing horse riding business in New York. In 1997, Ryan’s great uncle, Mickey Walsh, was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame as a trainer. In 2005, Ryan’s uncle, Tommy Walsh, was also inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame as a steeplechase jockey. Ryan’s father and mother paired up as a successful training team and continue racing many prominent racehorses.
Top Care and Management Produce Positive ResultsWe have been entrusted by you to care for, train and feed these wonderful animals. All horses receive top care and management that produce winning results. Ryan Walsh has been training Thoroughbred racehorses since 1990, beginning with a two-year program as an exercise rider for the Hall of Fame trainer and powerful Bill Mott Racing Stable. Ryan knows the importance of selecting only top professionals, such as grooms, exercise riders, blacksmiths, veterinarians, etc. Besides skilled, knowledgeable professionals working with your horses, there are several factors that go into the success of a racehorse. Morning Training Tells You What You HaveThe morning training is the most important part of the day for any Thoroughbred and trainer. This is the time when we observe, learn and adjust a training program to suit each individual horse. Our staff works hard to make sure this limited time is used to its fullest potential. We have three experienced exercise riders including myself, the trainer. Between the three of us, we discuss and utilize different equipment and exercise regimens to find the best fit for each horse. Proven Nutrition ProgramTo keep our horses feeling well, looking good and performing at the top of their games, we offer a proven nutrition program fortified with all of the necessary supplements that produces superb results. We feed on a three meal a day schedule, with an abundance of top quality timothy and alfalfa hay.
Newly Resurfaced Track Extends Racing OpportunitiesRyan Walsh Racing Stable is excited to be racing at the newly resurfaced Turfway Park racetrack located in Florence, KY, just south of the greater Cincinnati, OH metro area. We are excited because Turfway Park has just completed installation of its new Polytrack surface–the first on a racing surface in North America. Polytrack is a synthetic surface that has met with rave approval from both riders and trainers. It is all-weather, so inclement conditions such as rain or snow do not affect training or racing, thereby offering more opportunities to race. We are especially excited about the increased safety that Polytrack promises for horses. It offers a soft, forgiving surface for Thoroughbreds to run on. Racing on hard track surfaces, such as sand or dirt, can cause small fractures, splints, quarter cracks, bone chips or bucked shins. All injuries should be substantially reduced because of this new “kinder” track surface.
